At least three Bangladeshis were among those killed in Christchurch terror attack at New Zealand mosques on Friday, honorary consul general of Bangladesh in New Zealand Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan said.
Two of them are Lincoln University teacher Abdus Samad and his wife. The third victim is Hosne Ara Farid, he said.
Samad was a teacher of Bangladesh Agricultural University.
Several Bangladeshis were wounded in the terrorist attack. ‘Two of them are in critical condition,’ Bhuiyan said.
Another Bangladeshi has been missing since the shooting during Jum'a prayers.
New Zealand government says 49 people have been killed and more than 20 seriously wounded in shootings at two mosques. Four suspects have been detained.
Bangladesh cricket team, currently in Christchurch to play against New Zealand, narrowly escaped the attack. The third and final Test between Tigers and the Kiwis has been called off.
‘We are arranging to send them back home as early as possible,’ Bhuiyan said.
